The Firefighters’ Memorial is being constructed to honor 7of Wilmington’s bravest who lost their lives in the line of duty and the 343 NYC firefighters who perished during the tragic events of September 11, 2001. This memorial will serve as a place of reflection and respect to all firefighters that have made the ultimate sacrifice.
The centerpiece of the memorial is a steel artifact recovered from the rubble of the World Trade Center in New York City. Surrounding this somber piece of American History are garden spots, restful benches, and shade trees. The walkway through the garden is constructed of pavers etched with personalized messages and the names of loved ones being honored or memorialized. |
